Bharani Nakshatra: Degrees, Padas and Venus

Overview

Bharani is the second nakshatra, spanning 13°20′–26°40′ sidereal Aries. Venus is its Vimshottari lord, whereas Mars remains the ruler of Aries. A Bharani Moon therefore carries two distinct traditional labels; neither tells you where Venus or Mars is placed.

What does a Bharani placement identify?

The first question is which point occupies Bharani: Moon, Sun or ascendant. A Sun in this interval is not enough to call Bharani the birth nakshatra. The Moon reference matters especially if the next step is a Vimshottari calculation.

Bharani lies wholly within Aries. Its four quarters refine that single sign rather than adding four new signs. Traditional associations should be introduced with their own sources; a longitude range cannot establish fertility, sexuality or moral character.

Why half a sector leaves ten Venus years

For a synthetic Moon at 20° Aries, subtract Bharani’s 13°20′ start. The offset is 6°40′, exactly half of 13°20′, and pada 3 begins. The remaining arc is also 6°40′, or 400 of the sector’s 800 arcminutes.

The Moon-based Vimshottari balance is therefore 20 × 400/800 = 10 dasha years of Venus. Twenty years is the full allocation, not what every Bharani birth has left. Converting that remainder to dates additionally requires the birth timestamp and the chosen year convention.

How should a Bharani result be checked?

If a chart says Bharani pada 2 at exactly 20°, inspect the raw longitude before changing it: a rounded display may conceal a value just below the boundary. Compare the calculation inputs and precision, rather than choosing the label whose description sounds more familiar.

Do not turn the Venus association into a guaranteed relationship outcome. A useful next step is to identify Venus’s actual sign and house separately, then keep the coordinate finding distinct from any conditional interpretation.
