Overview

Punarvasu extends from 20° Gemini to 3°20′ Cancer, or 80°–93°20′ total sidereal longitude. Its first three padas are in Gemini and its fourth in Cancer. Jupiter is the Vimshottari lord throughout.

Is Punarvasu in Gemini or Cancer?

The degree decides. Most of the sector lies in Gemini; its final 3°20′ lies in Cancer. This is why a nakshatra-only result cannot tell you the Moon rashi. You need either the degree or the pada as well.

Mercury rules Gemini and the Moon rules Cancer in the sign scheme. Jupiter’s nakshatra timing association continues across both. None of those ownership labels alone establishes Jupiter’s actual placement or strength.

At 0° Cancer, the star has not ended

An invented Moon at 90° total longitude is 0° Cancer. It has advanced 10°, or 600 arcminutes, from Punarvasu’s 80° start. It therefore enters pada 4 rather than a new nakshatra.

Only 200 of the 800 arcminutes remain. Under the Moon-based Vimshottari rule, 16 × 200/800 = 4 dasha years of Jupiter remain. At exactly 93°20′, Pushya begins and a new lord assignment applies.

What should a Punarvasu comparison preserve?

Two Moon positions in Punarvasu may have different sign rulers when one is in Gemini and the other Cancer. Preserve that distinction before discussing a shared traditional theme. A matching star name is not sufficient evidence for a relationship verdict.

If a date-only calculator gives one of these signs, test the possible birth-time range rather than assuming its midnight result is the natal position. Near 90°, the sign and pada may be uncertain even if Punarvasu remains secure.
