Magha Nakshatra: Leo Degrees and Ketu
Locate Magha in the first 13°20′ of Leo, distinguish Ketu’s period association from Sun rulership, and check the start of its third pada.
Overview
Magha begins at 0° sidereal Leo and ends before 13°20′ Leo, equivalent to 120°–133°20′ total longitude. Ketu is its Vimshottari lord. The Sun rules Leo, but that does not make every Magha occupant the Sun or reveal the Sun’s actual chart position.

What distinguishes Magha from a Leo sign label?
Magha covers only the first 13°20′ of Leo, not the entire 30° sign. A Leo Moon farther along may occupy Purva Phalguni or Uttara Phalguni. A Sun-sign birthday table therefore cannot tell you whether the natal Moon is in Magha.
The traditional lord column in this guide belongs to the Vimshottari clock. Ketu need not be physically in Leo for the Moon to occupy Magha. Read the node and the Sun from their own position rows before discussing a chart relationship.
A Magha Moon halfway through the sector
For an invented Moon at 126°40′ total longitude, the Leo position is 6°40′. Subtracting Magha’s start leaves 400 arcminutes, the beginning of pada 3. The star has four equal quarters even though a display may emphasize only its name.
The remaining 400/800 fraction gives 7 × 1/2 = 3.5 dasha years of Ketu in the Moon-based method. This is a period allocation, not the time the Moon physically spends moving through Leo.
Does Magha establish ancestry or status?
No coordinate proves family rank, inherited privilege or a duty to follow a particular life path. Such narratives require explicit traditional attribution and must not be represented as verified biography. A real question about family history is answered with family evidence.
At 120° the table changes from Ashlesha to Magha; at 133°20′ it changes to Purva Phalguni while remaining in Leo. Identify which boundary is relevant instead of treating every disagreement as a change of Moon sign.
