Exposed Stems vs. Rooted Stems in Bazi (透干與通根的區別)
Separate visibility above the chart from support below it, then learn how a stem can be exposed, rooted, both, or neither without contradiction.
Overview
Exposure and root connection answer different questions. 透干 asks whether hidden qi is represented among the visible Heavenly Stems; 通根 asks whether a visible stem finds matching support inside the branches. A stem can be both exposed and rooted, exposed but rootless, hidden-only, or absent. Strength requires season and the full support network.

Keep visibility and support as two axes
Exposure begins from a branch-contained stem and asks whether it appears above. Root analysis begins from a visible stem and asks whether supporting qi exists below.
The direction of the question matters. Using the terms interchangeably hides whether the evidence concerns presentation or structural support.

Classify the four possible states
A stem may be visible and rooted, visible without a root, hidden without exposure, or absent from both rows. Record the state for each exact stem.
Same-phase opposite-polarity support may be treated differently across methods; disclose the root-matching policy.

- Declare broader same-phase root rules.
Add season and branch condition after classification
A rooted visible stem may still be weak out of season or heavily restrained. An unrooted visible stem may receive strong generation, though its continuity differs.
Qi layer, Month Command, repetition, combinations, and clashes refine the result. Classification is not the final strength score.

Do not map visibility and roots to personality
Exposed does not mean extroverted, and rooted does not mean emotionally stable. These are technical chart relationships.
Avoid fixed character, relationship, health, or success claims and keep real-world decisions evidence-based.
