Overview
Hidden Stems (藏干) are the one to three Heavenly Stems conventionally assigned inside each Earthly Branch. They preserve the branch’s internal qi structure and can supply Ten God and root evidence. They are not extra visible pillars: their relevance depends on the branch, season, qi layer, exposure, interactions, and the complete chart.

A branch is not an empty elemental symbol. The canonical table assigns one, two, or three stems to it, preserving a primary qi and, where applicable, middle or residual qi.
These assignments are stable lookup data. A school may weight the layers differently, but it should not silently change which stems the branch contains.
Identify the branch before looking up its stems.
Keep table membership separate from weighting.
Derive relationships from the actual hidden stem
Each hidden stem keeps its own phase and polarity. Compare it with the Day Master to derive its Ten God, and compare it with a visible stem to test root support.
Do not label an entire branch as one Ten God when it contains several stems. Record every layer first, then explain which evidence is most relevant.

Evaluate availability instead of counting characters
A primary stem in the Month Branch may carry more seasonal relevance than a residual stem elsewhere, while exposure, repetition, combinations, clashes, or rooting can alter practical availability.
No universal percentage applies across every chart and school. Any weighting method must disclose its table, season rules, and treatment of branch interactions.

Do not turn hidden-stem count into a verdict.
Do not treat concealed content as secret biography
Hidden stems do not reveal a hidden personality, secret relationship, disease, crime, wealth, or guaranteed event. They are technical inputs within a traditional interpretive system.
Use them to explain chart structure and competing pathways. Consequential medical, legal, financial, or relationship decisions require real-world evidence and qualified advice.
Keep technical evidence separate from life claims.
