Tomb-Storage Roots in Bazi (墓庫根)
Understand roots found in Chen, Xu, Chou, and Wei, why storage-branch qi is layered, and how season, opening conditions, and damage limit conclusions.
Overview
Tomb-storage roots (墓庫根) refer to support found among the layered hidden stems of Chen, Xu, Chou, or Wei. These four Earth branches store several phases, so a matching stem can have a real but condition-sensitive root. Storage language does not mean buried treasure or a locked event; qi layer, season, exposure, clashes, combinations, and the school’s opening rules must be declared.

Expand each storage branch accurately
Chou stores Ji, Gui, Xin; Chen stores Wu, Yi, Gui; Wei stores Ji, Ding, Yi; Xu stores Wu, Xin, Ding. The visible stem must match qualifying stored qi before a root is claimed.
Earth is primary in these branches, while additional phases occupy secondary layers. Preserve the exact order rather than calling every storage branch simply Earth.

Read storage through season and climate
The same stored phase can have different availability in a cold, warm, dry, or damp seasonal context. Month Command and adjacent support are therefore essential.
A storage branch outside the month still supplies structure, but should not automatically receive month-level weight.
- State the season.
- Do not assign equal weight to every storage position.
Declare any opening or activation rule
Schools differ on whether and how clashes, combinations, exposure, or timing “open” a storage. Do not present one rule as universal.
A clash does not simply release every stored stem, and a combination does not erase the branch. Identify participants, conditions, and counterrelations.

Keep tomb and storage language nonliteral
A tomb-storage root does not predict burial, imprisonment, inheritance, savings, property, or hidden wealth. The label is technical historical vocabulary.
Use it to describe root support and preserve medical, legal, financial, and safety boundaries.
