Overview

Roots Meeting Void (根氣逢空亡) means that a root-bearing branch is one of the two Void branches derived from the relevant sixty-pillar xun. The calculation and the root are separate facts: Void does not remove the natal branch or hidden stem. Traditions differ on reduced availability, filling, and activation, so any adjustment must identify its reference pillar and policy.

Calculate Void before interpreting the root

Derive the xun and its two Void branches from the stated reference pillar or timing layer. A page that does not name its reference cannot be reproduced.

Then verify that the target root actually belongs to one of those branches. Do not infer Void from an empty-looking chart feature.

  • Publish the reference pillar.
  • Keep the calculation reproducible.

Preserve branch membership and hidden stems

Void is an added status, not a deletion operation. The branch, hidden stems, Ten Gods, and root relationship stay in the natal data.

An interpretive method may reduce immediate availability, but it should store that as a separate assessment.

  • Keep base facts unchanged.
  • Apply status in a separate layer.

Distinguish natal Void from later filling or activation

Luck cycles and transits may repeat, clash, or combine the Void branch under school-specific “filling” rules. Those are timing overlays, not retroactive changes to birth data.

State the rule and date layer, and avoid promising an event when the status changes.

  • Separate natal and transit layers.
  • No automatic event on filling.

Do not equate Void with absence or failure

A Void root does not prove missing support, infertility, poverty, illness, abandonment, or a failed life domain. The traditional marker is conditional and method dependent.

Use it to refine a chart discussion, not to replace evidence or professional advice.

  • No absolute negative label.
  • No consequential prediction from Void alone.
