Conditions for Heavenly Stem Combinations (天干五合成立條件)
Learn the evidence order for a Heavenly Stem combination: exact pair, position, access, competition, damage, seasonal support, and transformation status.
Overview
Conditions for Heavenly Stem Combinations (天干五合成立條件) begin with one of five exact pairs: Jia–Ji, Yi–Geng, Bing–Xin, Ding–Ren, or Wu–Gui. Pair detection, effective combination, binding, and transformation are separate decisions. Record chart layer and distance, retain both stems’ original roots and roles, resolve rival partners and damage, then test the proposed transformed phase against the Month Command and the whole chart.
At a glance
- Exact pairs
- Jia–Ji, Yi–Geng, Bing–Xin, Ding–Ren, and Wu–Gui
- First decision
- Confirm the pair and its chart layer
- Reach
- Adjacent contact generally carries more weight than a distant Year–Hour pair
- Interference
- Rival partners, clashes, and diverted relations must be disclosed
- Transformation
- Requires a separate seasonal, rooted, and whole-chart test
- Boundary
- Combination status does not establish a life event or outcome
Start with an exact pair, not visual similarity
Only the five named pairings enter this rule. Two stems that merely generate, overcome, or share a phase belong to other relationship tests.
Identify whether each stem is natal or supplied by a Luck Pillar or year. A timing stem can activate a natal partner without rewriting the natal chart permanently.
- Match one canonical pair.
- Keep natal and timing layers separate.
Measure position, distance, and access
Record the pillars and intervening stems. Adjacent stems have direct contact; a distant Year–Hour pairing may be registered but should not receive the same practical weight.
Preserve the original element, Ten-God role, and roots of both stems. A relationship can restrain or redirect them without replacing their identity.
- Publish the actual topology.
- Do not erase original roles.
Resolve rivalry and damage before assigning force
When more than one eligible partner appears, list every candidate rather than choosing one silently. Competing combinations weaken exclusivity and can leave the relation unresolved.
Clashes, other combinations, strong roots, and blocked access can reduce the pair to a weak contact or binding relation. Each modifier needs its own evidence.
- Show competing partners.
- Name the modifier and its scope.
Return a bounded status, then test transformation separately
The defensible result may be no effective combination, combination only, binding, partial transformation, or true transformation. Do not collapse these states into one label.
Transformation requires the target phase to be seasonally permitted, rooted or supported, structurally continuous, and strong enough to overcome surviving source-element evidence.
- State the status and supporting evidence.
- No event prediction follows from the status.
