Do Heavenly-Stem Clashes Apply in Bazi? (天干沖)
Compare Bazi schools on Heavenly-Stem clashes, distinguish four directional pairs from ordinary overcoming, and see OpenFate’s explicit implementation policy.
Overview
Heavenly-Stem Clash (天干沖) is not applied uniformly across Bazi schools. OpenFate recognizes four directional pairs—Jia–Geng, Yi–Xin, Bing–Ren, and Ding–Gui—as a separate topology signal, while keeping ordinary Five-Phase overcoming distinct. Wu and Ji are central Earth and are not assigned a clash partner in this policy.
At a glance
- OpenFate pairs
- Jia–Geng, Yi–Xin, Bing–Ren, Ding–Gui
- Excluded
- Wu and Ji have no directional clash partner
- Separate rule
- Ordinary overcoming remains a different relation
- Boundary
- This is an explicit methodology choice, not universal doctrine
- Policy
- Named directional pairs are labels layered over Five-Phase control
- Disclosure
- State whether a school-specific clash table is being used
Begin with the school disagreement
Some readers use a four-pair stem-clash table, while others describe these contacts only through Five-Phase control.
A reviewed page must state its convention instead of silently mixing both systems.
- Label the adopted school rule.
- Acknowledge valid alternatives.
Apply the four-pair policy consistently
OpenFate records Jia–Geng, Yi–Xin, Bing–Ren, and Ding–Gui as directional stem clashes.
Wu and Ji remain central Earth without a clash partner; other controlling pairs stay under ordinary overcoming.
- Use only the declared pairs.
- Do not relabel every control relation.
Scale the signal by position and interference
Adjacent pillars receive more contact weight than distant Year–Hour placement.
A live combination may absorb, damage, or redirect clash force, and the residual state should remain visible.
- Publish distance.
- Resolve overlap without erasure.
Do not turn methodological choice into an event
A stem clash signal cannot alone prove conflict, accident, separation, illness, or failure.
Use it as one topology fact within season, roots, roles, timing, and real-world evidence.
- No catastrophic literalization.
- Keep implementation policy visible.
