Ground Support (De Di) in Bazi (得地)
Learn how a Day Master receives ground through branch roots, how root quality is graded, and why 得地 must be separated from season and overall momentum.
Overview
Ground Support (得地) means that the Day Master or another named stem has qualifying root support in the Earthly Branches. It answers whether the target has a usable foundation below the visible stems. Root layer, branch position, season, integrity, repetition, and interactions determine quality; a single residual root should not be treated as equal to several intact primary roots.

Map every qualifying root
Select the visible target and expand all four branches into their hidden stems. Record each exact or same-element match under the declared root policy.
Keep the source branch, qi layer, and pillar attached to every root. Do not double-count one hidden stem because it appears under several display labels.

Grade root quality rather than root count
A primary qi root in season usually offers different evidence from a residual root out of season. Repetition, exposure, and branch condition further change availability.
A branch involved in a combination or clash is not automatically erased. Record the interaction and reassess remaining support.

- Do not delete contested roots automatically.
Combine 得地 with command and momentum
Ground answers the root question. Receiving the Month Command answers season, while 得勢 describes broader chart momentum and 得助 or 得生 identify visible assistance.
Keeping these channels separate prevents one root from being used to explain every strength conclusion.

Do not literalize “ground”
得地 does not prove property ownership, geographic stability, family backing, physical grounding, or long life. It is a technical root relation.
