Seasonal Qi versus Receiving the Month Command (有氣與得令的區別)
Learn the distinction between having seasonal qi and receiving the Month Command, including direct support, indirect relevance, hidden qi, and school-dependent usage.
Overview
Having seasonal qi (有氣) is a broader claim that a stem or element retains meaningful seasonal relevance or support; receiving the Month Command (得令) is usually the stronger, more direct claim that it aligns with the Month Branch’s governing seasonal condition. A target may have qi without fully receiving command through residual qi, generation, or transitional depth. Because terminology varies, every reading should define its threshold.
At a glance
- 有氣
- Broad seasonal relevance or support
- 得令
- Direct alignment with the governing Month Command
- Possible middle case
- Residual, generated, or transitional qi
- Evidence
- Month Branch, hidden qi, and solar-term depth
- Variation
- Thresholds differ by school
- Limit
- Neither term alone decides overall strength
Use nested rather than identical concepts
得令 normally identifies direct seasonal command, while 有氣 can include weaker or indirect seasonal availability. Treating them as exact synonyms removes useful precision.
Some sources use the words more loosely, so the adopted meanings should be stated.
- Define both thresholds.
- Do not assume all authors use them identically.
Show the seasonal route
Name the target, Month Branch, governing hidden qi, and depth within the term. If support is generated rather than direct, label that route.
A residual hidden stem near a transition may have qi without becoming the primary command.
- Trace direct or indirect support.
- Preserve seasonal depth.
Keep the distinction inside the full audit
Direct command is usually weightier than broad seasonal relevance, but roots, exposure, support, drain, and control can outweigh either first impression.
Report how the distinction changes confidence rather than turning it into a binary verdict.
- Weight 得令 more strongly when justified.
- Continue to whole-chart evidence.
Do not convert qi terminology into vitality claims
有氣 does not prove health, energy, fertility, resilience, or longevity, and 失令 does not prove their absence.
Use medical evidence for health decisions and keep traditional terminology clearly labeled.
- No wellness score from qi.
- Maintain the traditional-method boundary.
