Momentum Support (De Shi) in Bazi (得勢)
Understand 得勢 as whole-chart momentum, how repeated supportive forces create a tendency, and why quantity must be checked against season, roots, and opposition.
Overview
Momentum Support (得勢) describes a chart-wide tendency in which multiple stems, branches, relations, or transformations reinforce the same side of the strength balance. It is broader than one root or one seasonal advantage. A reliable assessment identifies independent support sources, discounts duplicate evidence, compares opposing forces, and states whether the momentum is stable, conditional, or contested.
At a glance
- Scope
- The whole chart rather than one pillar
- Evidence
- Repeated support, generation, roots, and active relations
- Test
- Compare supportive and opposing networks
- Deduplication
- Do not count one symbol through multiple labels
- Status
- Stable, conditional, or contested momentum
- Limit
- A majority of symbols is not enough by itself
Identify a coherent support network
Map which visible stems, hidden stems, branches, and valid relations support the target or a dominant elemental route. Evidence should connect through a disclosed generation or peer rule.
Several labels derived from the same source do not become several independent votes. Keep provenance so the network can be audited.
- Trace each support edge.
- Deduplicate shared sources.
Measure resistance as well as support
Output, Wealth, Officer, clashes, transformations, and climate constraints can oppose or redirect the apparent tendency. A visual majority can still be unusable.
Describe whether opposing forces are rooted, seasonal, exposed, or merely nominal. Momentum is relational rather than a headcount.
- Map the opposing network.
- Compare quality and position.
Use momentum within, not instead of, strength analysis
得勢 can reinforce a strong or following conclusion, but Month Command and root state remain separate inputs. It can also compensate partly for losing season.
Apply stable thresholds and explain why the chart sits in strong, weak, balanced, or extreme territory.
- Keep season and roots visible.
- Avoid unexplained majority rules.
Do not equate momentum with social power
The word 勢 does not prove authority, popularity, institutional backing, winning, or inevitable success. It refers to structural direction inside the chart model.
Translate it into a practical narrative only with additional chart layers, timing, and real-world evidence.
- No automatic status claim.
- Keep the conclusion proportional.
