Strength Difference between Rooted and Rootless Stems (有根與無根的強弱差異)
Compare rooted and rootless stems in Bazi, see how root layer and season affect persistence, and learn why rootless does not mean absent or powerless.
Overview
A rooted stem has qualifying support in one or more Earthly Branch hidden stems; a rootless stem lacks that ground under the declared matching rule. Rooting often improves persistence and structural availability, but root quality varies. A rootless stem may still receive season, generation, combination, or repeated visible support, while a nominally rooted stem may have only a weak or contested residual root.
At a glance
- Rooted
- Qualifying match in branch hidden stems
- Rootless
- No qualifying branch match under the method
- Root quality
- Primary, middle, or residual qi
- Modifiers
- Season, exposure, integrity, and repetition
- Other support
- Generation, peers, and combinations
- Limit
- Root status is not a binary power verdict
Apply one declared root-matching rule
Decide whether only the exact stem or any same-element hidden stem qualifies, then apply that rule consistently to all branches.
Record the hidden-qi layer and source branch. A vague “has root” statement cannot be graded.
- State exact versus same-element policy.
- Preserve source and layer.
Compare quality rather than binary labels
A primary root in season can offer much stronger support than a residual root under conflict. Multiple roots may reinforce one another when independently sourced.
Rootless does not mean the visible stem disappears. It may still be seasonally supported or generated.
- Grade rooted cases.
- Retain non-root support for rootless stems.
Integrate root status into the wider balance
For the Day Master, rooting contributes to ground; for other stems, it affects how durable their support, drain, or control may be.
Compare Month Command, visible forces, and interactions before concluding overall strength.
- Apply root status to the correct target.
- Do not stop at the root label.
Avoid stability and ancestry claims
A rooted stem does not prove stable housing, family lineage, confidence, or longevity; a rootless stem does not prove displacement or insecurity.
Use these terms only for chart structure unless additional evidence supports a broader reading.
- No literal stability inference.
- Keep life claims conditional.
