Overview

Imprisoned (囚) is the phase assigned to the element controlled by the season’s prosperous element. It describes relative seasonal constraint in the 旺相休囚死 framework. The element still exists and may be rooted, exposed, supported, or useful for balance. 囚 is not a literal prediction of confinement, punishment, illness, or failure.

Find what the prosperous element controls

After identifying 旺, follow the controlling cycle from that element to its target. The controlled element occupies 囚.

This relation is season-specific. It does not mean every instance of the target element is equally weak across all charts.

  • Derive 囚 from the control cycle.
  • Keep the target element explicit.

Treat constraint as a starting condition

Seasonal control can reduce ease of expression or availability, but roots, generators, visible stems, combinations, and climate needs may preserve the element.

A reliable reading states both the seasonal constraint and any counterevidence rather than erasing the element.

  • Record support that survives constraint.
  • Avoid all-or-nothing strength labels.

Ask whether constrained qi is needed

A seasonally constrained element may still be useful for balancing excess, regulating climate, or supporting a structure. Conversely, reviving it may not help every chart.

Usefulness follows the whole chart, not the emotionally negative translation of 囚.

  • Separate availability from usefulness.
  • Read balance before recommendation.

Reject literal confinement narratives

囚 does not prove imprisonment, restriction by others, legal trouble, illness, failure, or lack of freedom. It is a technical seasonal relation.

Legal, health, and life-outcome claims require independent evidence and appropriate professional guidance.

  • No literal prison prediction.
  • Keep consequential claims outside the phase label.
