Receiving the Month Command in Bazi (得令)
Learn what receiving the Month Command means, how seasonal support is verified, and why 得令 is important but insufficient for a final strength verdict.
Overview
Receiving the Month Command (得令) means that a stem or element is seasonally supported by the Month Branch under the adopted Five Element and hidden-qi rules. For the Day Master, it is strong evidence of seasonal availability. It does not by itself prove an overall strong chart, a favorable structure, or a beneficial outcome, because roots, drain, control, combinations, and climate can modify the result.

State who or what receives the command
A reading must name the target: the Day Master, another visible stem, or a Five Element. “The chart receives command” is too vague to audit.
Then show the Month Branch and the rule connecting its seasonal qi to the target. Hidden-stem membership and current term segment should not be implied without evidence.
- Name the target and Month Branch.
- Show the supporting relation.
Treat 得令 as strong seasonal evidence
Seasonal support can make the target easier to root, express, or sustain within the chart model. It is usually more consequential than a bare same-element count elsewhere.
The weight is still bounded. A seasonally supported target can be heavily drained, controlled, combined, overheated, chilled, or otherwise difficult to use.
- Give season material weight.
- Retain countervailing forces.
Continue from season to the full strength audit
Check whether the Day Master also receives ground through roots, momentum through the whole chart, generation from Resource, and assistance from peers.
Then compare Output, Wealth, and Officer forces. Only the combined evidence supports a strong, weak, balanced, or following classification.
- Do not stop after 得令.
- Separate support sources by type.
Do not translate in-season status into good fortune
Receiving command does not guarantee health, leadership, wealth, confidence, success, or an auspicious period. Excess can be as structurally important as deficiency.
Explain what the seasonal evidence changes and leave life outcomes conditional on the rest of the chart, timing, and real-world circumstances.
- In season is not automatically favorable.
- No guaranteed event or trait.
