Resource and Companion Stars in Strength Assessment (印比與身強)
Understand how Resource and Companion stars support the Day Master, when they contribute to strength, and why more 印比 is not always favorable.
Overview
Resource and Companion stars (印比) usually contribute to the Day Master’s support network: Resource generates it, while Friend and Rob Wealth assist through the same element. Their actual effect depends on season, roots, exposure, combinations, control, and duplication. Abundant 印比 can support a weak Day Master, but in an already excessive chart it may increase congestion or reduce the usefulness of Output, Wealth, and Officer pathways.

Derive Resource and Companions from the Day Master
Identify the element that generates the Day Master as Resource and the same element as Companion, preserving yin-yang distinctions where the Ten God label matters.
Map visible and hidden sources separately and keep each source’s root and season quality.

Evaluate the support route
Rooted, seasonally viable Resource can generate more reliably than an isolated stem under control. A rooted Companion may assist more than several residual traces.
Combinations can redirect a supporting stem, and repeated labels from one branch should not multiply its contribution.

Ask whether additional support is needed
For a weak Day Master, coherent 印比 may restore continuity. For a strong or excessive Day Master, the same network can obstruct circulation or compete with Wealth.
Strength contribution is descriptive; usefulness depends on the whole chart’s needs.
