Overview

The Luck-Pillar starting age is the converted interval between birth and the relevant solar term under the selected direction rule. Traditional systems commonly translate three elapsed days into one year, with smaller units converted into months and days. The result identifies when the first Luck Pillar begins; it is not the length of the pillar and should not be reduced to a rounded age without preserving the actual start date.

Starting age marks a calculated boundary

The value locates the beginning of the first Luck Pillar on a person’s timeline. Later pillars follow from their returned start and end dates.

It does not describe maturity, fortune quality, or the age at which a major life event must happen.

  • Treat it as calendar data.
  • Do not narrate the number as destiny.

The interval depends on direction and solar terms

Forward calculations usually measure toward the next applicable term, while reverse calculations measure back toward the previous one under the selected tradition.

Births close to a solar-term boundary are especially sensitive to correct ephemeris, time zone, and timestamp handling.

  • Save the target solar term.
  • Flag uncertain boundary inputs.

Preserve smaller units instead of only rounding

The traditional conversion can produce a year plus additional months and days. Different displays may round, floor, or express nominal age, creating apparent disagreement.

A scalable system stores the unrounded interval and civil start date, then formats age for the locale without changing the underlying value.

  • Store precision before formatting.
  • Distinguish full age from nominal age.

Compare calculators at the input and convention levels

If two calculators disagree, first compare birth time, location, time zone, solar-term instant, direction, and conversion ratio.

Do not choose the result that better matches a biography. Recalculate from documented inputs and keep older frozen results versioned.

  • Debug inputs before interpretations.
  • Never back-fit the start age to events.
