Overview
Bazi Luck Pillars, called Da Yun, are calculated stem-branch periods that provide a long-term timing layer outside the natal Four Pillars. Their sequence begins from the month pillar under a declared forward-or-reverse rule, while the starting date is derived separately from birth time and solar-term distance. A Luck Pillar modifies the reading context; it never replaces the natal chart or guarantees an event.

A Luck Pillar is a calculated timing layer
The natal chart fixes the year, month, day, and hour pillars at birth. Luck Pillars add a later sequence of stems and branches, each attached to a dated interval.
Because the timed pillar is external to the natal four, a report should preserve both layers and identify which relation belongs to which period.

Sequence and start time are separate calculations
The stem-branch sequence advances or reverses from the month pillar according to the adopted polarity-and-sex convention.
The age at which that sequence begins is calculated from the interval between birth and the relevant solar term. A correct sequence can still have a wrong start date if these steps are conflated.

Read every period through the natal baseline
The arriving stem and branch can add Ten-God roles, roots, combinations, clashes, and other relations, but their effect depends on the natal Month Command, strength, structure, and existing pathways.
A favorable-sounding phase can be obstructed, while a difficult-looking phase can contain support. The evidence must be traced rather than inferred from the pillar name.

A decade label is not a life verdict
Luck Pillars do not prove that ten years will be uniformly good or bad, nor do they establish career, marriage, health, financial, or legal outcomes.
Use them as a traditional timing framework alongside current facts, personal choices, and qualified professional advice for consequential decisions.
