Overview

Image-based Bazi method (象法, Xiàng Fǎ) uses structured associations to translate stems, branches, five phases, Ten Gods, palaces, combinations, clashes, shapes, positions, and timing into thematic images. Its value lies in generating intelligible hypotheses and connecting several chart relations, but its flexibility creates a high risk of arbitrary storytelling and retrospective fitting. A responsible reading publishes the symbol, association source, positional rule, intermediate reasoning, alternative images, disconfirming evidence, and the observation that would support or reject the hypothesis. Images should remain prompts for inquiry rather than claims about hidden history, personality, body, occupation, conduct, or future events.

Make every image association traceable

Start from a verified chart symbol or relation and cite the dictionary, classic, teacher, or editorial mapping that connects it to an image. Record pillar and timing context.

Do not jump from an element or animal name to a biography. Show the intermediate relationship and explain why competing associations were not selected.

  • Cite the source of each association.
  • Expose intermediate reasoning and rejected alternatives.

Frame the result as a testable hypothesis

Write the narrow proposition suggested by the image and identify what observation would support, weaken, or falsify it. Ask rather than assert when personal evidence is absent.

Avoid descriptions broad enough to fit anyone. A useful image creates a bounded question, not an unfalsifiable narrative.

  • State the possible observation and disconfirmation.
  • Prefer bounded questions to dramatic declarations.

Use a relation network, not one symbol

Check whether palace, Ten God, stem-branch action, season, strength, and timing support the same theme. Record contradictions rather than erasing them.

Several associations derived from the same underlying symbol are not independent confirmation. Track their shared dependency to prevent evidence inflation.

  • Require converging but independent evidence.
  • Preserve contradictions and shared dependencies.

Do not turn imagery into a factual verdict

Symbolic images cannot prove a person’s home, job, body, family history, sexuality, fidelity, crime, illness, wealth, or future. Vividness is not accuracy.

Use direct evidence and consent for personal questions, and qualified processes for high-stakes decisions. Keep image readings explicitly interpretive.

  • No private-fact claim from an image.
  • No diagnosis, accusation, or deterministic forecast.
