Nayin Method: Tables, Reference Points, and Limits
Learn how Nayin assigns five-phase names to the sixty Jiazi, how historical methods compare pillars, and why Nayin must remain distinct from stem-branch elements.
Overview
Nayin method (納音法, Nà Yīn Fǎ) uses the established table that assigns one of thirty named Nayin categories, each grouped under a five-phase class, to the sixty stem-branch pairs. Historical applications differ: some emphasize the year pillar, while others compare multiple pillars through generation, control, order, position, sound-class, or named configurations. A reproducible reading identifies the exact sexagenary pair, table, pillar or host, comparison direction, and source rule. Nayin is not the same as the visible stem element, branch element, hidden stems, Day-Master strength, structure, or useful function. Its evocative labels are historical classifications and cannot directly establish personality, compatibility, health, career, wealth, or events.

Verify the sexagenary pair and table entry
Derive each stem-branch pair from a declared calendar policy and look it up in a cited sixty-Jiazi Nayin table. Record both the named category and its five-phase class.
Do not infer Nayin from one stem, one branch, pronunciation, or modern metaphor. A wrong pillar or day boundary changes the entry.
- Publish the exact Jiazi and table.
- Keep calendar derivation separate from interpretation.
Name the pillar, host, and comparison direction
State whether the method reads the year alone, compares year and day, compares all four pillars, or forms a named configuration. Direction matters in generation and control.
List positional and order requirements instead of saying only that two Nayin elements interact. Cite the source for the chosen procedure.
- Declare host, target, and direction.
- Do not mix procedures from different texts silently.
Keep Nayin separate from other five-phase layers
A Metal Nayin does not make the visible stem or branch Metal, and it does not automatically strengthen or weaken the Day Master. Each layer is calculated from different inputs.
If a page compares Nayin with Ten Gods, structure, or useful functions, display the outputs separately and explain the adopted integration policy.
- No cross-layer substitution.
- Do not multiply agreement into an invented score.
Do not literalize evocative names
Names such as Sea Gold, Furnace Fire, or Great Forest Wood are transmitted labels, not descriptions of substance, body, temperament, occupation, or surroundings.
Nayin can support historical and comparative study but cannot diagnose health, certify compatibility, prescribe a remedy, or guarantee a life outcome.
- Treat names as classifications, not substances.
- No diagnosis, remedy, or deterministic forecast.
