Overview

Zi Ping Zhen Quan (子平真詮, Zǐ Píng Zhēn Quán) is an influential Qing-era presentation of Ziping structure analysis, commonly associated with Shen Xiaozhan and widely read through later editions and commentary. It gives the Month Command a central role, then examines how a structure is established, succeeds, fails, changes, or receives rescue through the Ten Gods and their relations. It does not reduce the chart to the Month Branch alone, and its structural useful function is not automatically identical to a balancing or climate-regulation choice. Readers should identify the base passage, later editorial layer, adopted terminology, and complete formation conditions. The text provides a disciplined decision order, not a license to force every chart into one label.

Identify the edition and commentary layer

Modern readers often meet the work through annotated editions. Wording, punctuation, headings, and explanatory conclusions may belong to different editorial layers.

Cite the base passage and commentator separately. If attribution or wording is uncertain, report the uncertainty instead of converting a received edition into a single original voice.

  • Name the edition and annotator.
  • Keep original passage and explanation distinct.

Follow the structure decision order

Begin with Month Command and its revealed function, then examine Day-Master capacity, relevant Ten Gods, roots, placement, combinations, controls, and whether the structure is supported or damaged.

State the formation rule before discussing success, failure, rescue, or change. A structure name without its enabling evidence is only a candidate label.

  • Establish formation before outcome.
  • Show damage and rescue evidence separately.

Do not merge every useful-function method

A function that protects or completes a structure answers a structural question. A balancing or climate-regulation method may identify a different need because it begins from another model.

When methods agree, show why. When they differ, keep separate outputs and state which question each solves rather than inventing a hidden priority rule.

  • Label structural, balancing, and climate uses.
  • Do not resolve method conflict silently.

Do not force one structure or promise an outcome

Mixed, changing, weakly formed, or disputed evidence should remain visible. A favorable structural label does not guarantee status, wealth, career, marriage, health, or conduct.

Use the text for historical and interpretive study, verify calculation independently, and return consequential decisions to observable facts and appropriate expertise.

  • Preserve mixed and unresolved cases.
  • Structure labels are not life guarantees.
