Overview

Qian Li Ming Gao (千里命稿, Qiān Lǐ Mìng Gǎo) is a modern-era Chinese Bazi teaching work associated with Wei Qianli. It presents chart foundations, stems and branches, Ten Gods, strength, structures, useful functions, life topics, timing, and examples in a relatively systematic instructional form. Its proximity to modern practice makes it useful for studying twentieth-century terminology and pedagogy, but it is still a historical interpretive text shaped by its period. Editions, punctuation, case details, and later reprints should be identified. Social, gendered, medical, occupational, and moral claims require historical context and must not be repeated as present-day facts or professional advice.

Identify the teaching edition and historical setting

Record the edition, publisher, chapter, page, and whether the copy is a facsimile, reset text, or later compilation. Reprints can alter punctuation and organization.

Place the work in its twentieth-century intellectual and social context. Do not present period-specific categories as timeless consensus across all Bazi traditions.

  • Cite the exact teaching edition.
  • Distinguish period pedagogy from ancient doctrine.

Follow the instructional sequence without making it universal

Map how the text moves from chart symbols to strength, Ten Gods, structures, useful functions, life topics, and timing. State when a later conclusion depends on an earlier definition.

Compare that sequence with structure-first, climate-first, or other methods. A clear curriculum is one authorial organization, not proof that every school uses the same priority.

  • Trace dependencies between chapters.
  • Label method priority as the text’s approach.

Audit examples and retrospective claims

Separate birth data, calculated chart, reported biography, interpretive steps, and later editorial additions. Do not assume every case detail was recorded prospectively.

Use cases to understand the author’s reasoning. They cannot establish predictive performance without failures, selection criteria, alternative explanations, and independent verification.

  • Keep case inputs and outcomes separately sourced.
  • Do not infer an accuracy rate from selected examples.

Modernize language without fabricating authority

Explain historical claims about gender, family, status, occupation, illness, or character rather than silently endorsing them. Preserve the original meaning while marking current limits.

Calculation must remain reproducible, and present-day health, legal, financial, employment, or relationship decisions must rely on direct evidence and qualified support.

  • Contextualize, do not sanitize or endorse.
  • Keep professional decisions outside divinatory authority.
