What Are Auspicious and Inauspicious Confluences (吉會凶會) in BaZi?
Learn the two layers of auspicious and inauspicious confluences, hidden trine invocation, control and Resource routes, luck-cycle evidence and safety limits.
Overview
Auspicious and Inauspicious Confluences is the workbook’s English name for 吉會凶會. The source first presents a school-specific technique in which two visible branches “convene” an absent third branch and its hidden stem: for a Jia Day, Zi and Chen may invoke Shen-Geng Seven Killing, whose effect then depends on Bing control, Yi combination or a valid Resource route. Parallel Yi, Bing and Ding cases are not interchangeable. The passage then broadens the term: when a chart’s usable Wealth, Officer, Resource, Output, Lu, Horse or Nobleman relations converge with major and annual luck, it calls this an auspicious confluence; convergence of an already harmful Killing, Hurting Officer, Blade, Wang Shen or Jie Sha is called inauspicious. OpenFate does not materialize an absent branch or issue a good-or-bad event verdict.
At a glance
- Narrow layer
- Two branches conventionally invoke an absent third
- Broad layer
- Natal, major-luck and annual relations converge
- Required context
- The invoked or gathered relation must already be classified
- Possible modifiers
- Control, combination, Resource or Day-Master support
- Not a pillar
- An invoked branch is not written into the chart
- Product boundary
- No OpenFate auspicious-disaster verdict
The source uses “confluence” for a narrow technique and a broader timing principle
Its opening Jia, Yi, Bing and Ding examples use incomplete three-harmony pairs to invoke an absent branch and then inspect the relation hidden there. This is a textual convention, not a newly calculated pillar.
The later paragraph applies the name more broadly when natal preferences and avoidances are jointly activated by major and annual luck. The two layers should be labelled rather than collapsed.
- Identify which source layer is being used.
- Never add the absent branch or hidden stem to deterministic chart data.
The same gathering changes meaning through the Day Stem and available modifiers
Zi-Chen does not carry one universal result. For Jia or Yi it can invoke a Metal relation; Mao-Wei and Shen-Chen invoke different Water relations for Fire Day Stems. Control, stem combination, seasonal support and a usable Resource route must be shown separately.
The broad timing layer also starts with the chart’s existing useful or harmful relation. A gathering cannot be called favorable merely because several branches combine, or harmful merely because a Fate Star is named.
- Map every invoked relation from the actual Day Stem.
- Show natal evidence, major luck and annual luck as separate layers.
OpenFate preserves calculated relations and treats confluence as a reviewed overlay
The engine can calculate visible pillars, Ten Gods, branch groups, stem controls and combinations, strength, major luck and annual context.
There is no Auspicious and Inauspicious Confluences detector. Virtual branches are not added to hidden stems, strength, reports or saved charts.
- Use visible deterministic evidence first.
- No virtual pillar, event flag, score or report mutation.
A favorable or unfavorable confluence does not prove a real-world event
The classical passage promises wealth and rank or predicts loss of money, office and disaster. Those outcome claims are not verified forecasts.
Do not predict promotion, dismissal, investment return, debt, litigation, accident, disease, violence or death. Decisions require current financial, legal, medical and safety evidence.
- No wealth, rank, promotion or career guarantee.
- No loss, disaster, illness, violence or death prediction.
