What Is One Qi as Root (一氣為根) in BaZi?
Learn the pure-Nayin, directional grouping and full-qi variants of One Qi as Root, required evidence, source ambiguity and OpenFate boundaries.
Overview
One Qi as Root is the workbook’s English name for 一氣為根. Its primary definition says the Nayin assigned to year, month, day, hour and fetal pillar is purely Metal, Wood, Water, Fire or Earth. It then gives a second route: a Wood person meeting Yin-Mao-Chen, Fire meeting Si-Wu-Wei, Metal meeting Shen-You-Xu or Water meeting Hai-Zi-Chou may also be called one qi. A final sentence praises charts whose stems and branches become one coherent qi and supplies school-specific examples. These routes use different evidence and must not be merged with Tian Yuan One Qi, repeated identical pillars or an ordinary directional meeting. The fetal-pillar and “element person” conventions must be named because they are not universal modern inputs. OpenFate does not publish this pattern or add a fetal pillar to the chart.
At a glance
- Primary route
- Five source positions share one Nayin element
- Alternate route
- Element-person convention meets its directional group
- Wood grouping
- Yin-Mao-Chen
- Other groupings
- Si-Wu-Wei, Shen-You-Xu, Hai-Zi-Chou
- Do not merge
- Not automatically Tian Yuan One Qi
- Product boundary
- No OpenFate One-Qi-as-Root detector
The source records several routes that need separate labels
The clearest route uses the Nayin of year, month, day, hour and fetal pillar and requires all five to share one element. Visible stem or branch elements alone cannot prove that route.
The directional-group route uses Wood, Fire, Metal or Water person conventions, while the last route speaks more generally of coherent stem-branch qi. Each must identify its school vocabulary and inputs.
- State whether the evidence is Nayin, directional branches or full qi.
- Do not blend routes to fill missing conditions.
One repeated element or one complete directional group is not enough by itself
The pattern is not the same as four identical pillars, four identical stems, Tian Yuan One Qi or an ordinary directional meeting. Their object and counting rules differ.
Fetal-pillar calculation and the meaning of “Wood person” are source conventions. If the adopted policy cannot reproduce them, the result must remain unclassified.
- Compare the exact source object rather than the label “one qi.”
- Treat missing or disputed source inputs as a failed publication verdict.
OpenFate keeps Nayin, directional groups and fetal policy distinct
The product may expose visible pillar elements and established branch groups where those fields already exist.
There is no One Qi as Root detector, and no fetal pillar or source-specific element-person identity is injected into strength, reports or saved charts.
- Use only product fields that are actually calculated.
- No inferred fetal pillar, purity score or report mutation.
Elemental purity does not establish office, wealth or character
The source attaches administrative rank and nobility to the pattern. Its historical examples do not validate that outcome.
Do not predict promotion, public office, examination success, wealth, personality, social class, health or lifespan. Real outcomes need direct evidence.
- No rank, office, exam or wealth guarantee.
- No personality, class, health or lifespan inference.
