What Is Substantial Within Void (虛中精實) in BaZi?
Learn the Year–Hour outer frame, Month–Day interior, three asymmetric classical routes, Yin-Wu-Xu variant and why “void” is not Kong Wang.
Overview
Substantial Within Void is the English name for 虛中精實. The passage treats Year and Hour as the upper and lower outer frame and Month and Day as the interior. It gives three asymmetric routes: prosperous outer positions with Day alone in declining, dead or extinct stages; an outer “metal-and-jade, hard-and-soft” quality with a Water–Fire route in Month or Day; and Year, Month and Hour carrying favorable markers or a complete prosperous Yin–Wu–Xu trine while Day alone lacks that support or carries the trine’s declining condition. “Void” here is not Kong Wang, and “substantial” is not a personality score. Fix the outer–inner position model before evaluating qualities
The first route gives Year and Hour prosperous qi while Day alone carries decline, death or extinction. A second route contrasts qualities associated with the outer frame against a Water–Fire transformation path in Month or Day.
The third route gathers Tianyi, Tianguan, Literary Star, Lu or Horse across Year, Month and Hour, or places the complete prosperous Yin–Wu–Xu trine there, while Day alone lacks the favorable marker or carries the declining member. “Alone” is position-specific evidence.
