What Are Four Pillars Secret Carriers (四柱暗帶) in BaZi?
Learn how two visible sexagenary positions imply one missing middle pillar, the Jia-Zi examples, source-specific labels, non-conditions and OpenFate boundaries.
Overview
Four Pillars Secret Carriers is the workbook’s English name for 四柱暗帶. In the cited examples, two visible sexagenary positions separated by one step imply the missing middle position: Jia-Zi and Bing-Yin “secretly carry” Yi-Chou, while Ren-Xu and Jia-Zi imply Gui-Hai. The source then assigns relations and classical markers to that implied pillar and says the same method can be checked across day and hour. This is not permission to insert Yi-Chou or Gui-Hai into the actual Four Pillars. The exact two endpoints, direction in the sixty-pillar cycle and the source’s marker convention must all be explicit; unrelated gaps or approximate adjacency do not qualify. OpenFate does not currently calculate or publish a Secret Carrier verdict.

The implied position comes from an exact gap in the sexagenary sequence
Jia-Zi, Yi-Chou and Bing-Yin are consecutive positions, so visible Jia-Zi and Bing-Yin leave Yi-Chou between them. In the reverse example, Ren-Xu, Gui-Hai and Jia-Zi form the corresponding sequence.
The technique needs the complete stem-branch pairs, not merely similar stems, adjacent branches or a convenient hidden stem. The source’s day-hour extension follows the same exact-sequence logic.
- Verify both visible sexagenary pairs and the missing middle pair.
- Reject approximate, branch-only or multi-step gaps.
The implied pair is interpreted as a source overlay, not chart data
The text reads Yi-Chou as carrying Resource and several auspicious markers, while Gui-Hai receives unfavorable marker labels. These labels belong to the cited school and require their own canonical definitions.
An implied pair cannot supply roots, hidden stems, Ten Gods, strength or combinations to the deterministic chart. It also cannot outweigh contradictory visible evidence.
- Label every marker and relation as source-specific.
- Keep implied evidence subordinate to the four visible pillars.
OpenFate keeps the four pillars immutable
The engine calculates the four visible pillars and can compare their sexagenary positions without inventing an additional pillar.
There is no Four Pillars Secret Carriers detector. The implied pair is not written into hidden stems, interactions, scoring, reports or saved charts.
- Use the original four pillars as the only deterministic input.
- No virtual fifth pillar, marker injection or report mutation.
A secret carrier cannot prove honor, disgrace or death
The passage contrasts honor and disgrace and ends with a fatal claim for one unfavorable combination. These are historical outcome labels, not evidence.
Do not predict reputation, rank, humiliation, crime, accident, illness, death or lifespan from an implied pillar. Use direct records and qualified advice.
- No honor, disgrace, status or reputation prediction.
- No crime, accident, illness, death or lifespan prediction.
