What Is Lu Origins Exchange (祿元互換) in BaZi?
Learn the four exact Lu Origins Exchange day-hour pairs, their reciprocal Officer logic, supporting conditions, blockers and OpenFate boundary.
Overview
Lu Origins Exchange is the workbook’s standard English name for 祿元互換. The classical passage restricts the rule to four day-hour pairs: Wu-Shen day with Yi-Mao hour, Ding-You with Ren-Yin, Bing-Zi with Gui-Si and Geng-Zi with Ding-Hai. The first example explains that the Day Stem and Hour Stem each find an Officer relation in the other pillar’s branch, creating a reciprocal route. Wealth support, usable Officer qi and freedom from clashes or damaging Ten Gods still have to be checked. This is not a generic stem combination, Lu-star exchange or permission to swap the natal pillars.

Lu Origins Exchange uses a four-pair allowlist
The day and hour must match one of the four complete pairs. A matching day alone, matching hour alone or reversed pillar order is not stated as the same rule.
For Wu-Shen with Yi-Mao, Wu takes Yi in Mao as Officer while Yi takes Geng in Shen as Officer. The remaining three pairs are extended by the source under the same reciprocal logic, not by an unlimited lookup table.
- Match both day and hour in the stated order.
- Do not extrapolate unlisted pairs without a cited rule.
Reciprocity is an entry condition, not a completed judgment
The first route favors Ren-Gui Wealth that can support the Yi Officer, then checks whether the Officer reaches a usable state. It also names Jia Killing, Xin Output and Yin-You clash as damage in that route.
Every pair therefore needs its actual Month Command, strength, support and interactions. The historical label cannot override a clearer ordinary pattern formed through the month.
- Audit support and damage after matching the pair.
- Keep the ordinary chart structure in the final interpretation.
The chart remains unchanged when the exchange is discussed
OpenFate calculates the exact day and hour pillars, hidden stems, Ten Gods, strength and clashes. These are the observable inputs for the reciprocal reading.
The engine does not detect Lu Origins Exchange and never swaps the natal stems or branches. A future detector would need four explicit pair tests and route-specific blockers.
- Preserve the original four pillars.
- Label the exchange as an interpretive relationship, not calculated chart data.
Reciprocal Officer symbolism is not a status guarantee
Classical examples use official success to illustrate the exchange. They do not establish a causal forecast for modern education, employment or public authority.
Do not promise office, promotion, money, privilege, health or longevity from this pattern. Use real credentials, contracts, financial records and professional guidance for decisions.
- No office, promotion or privilege guarantee.
- No financial, medical or lifespan conclusion.
