Well Rope Slanting Fork is the standard English name used here for 井欄斜叉. The strict source route begins with a Geng-Shen, Geng-Zi or Geng-Chen day, three visible Geng stems and a complete Shen-Zi-Chen Water frame. The passage then says this Water frame symbolically clashes the absent Yin-Wu-Xu Fire frame, where Ding in Wu is Geng’s Proper Officer. Visible Bing or Ding, Si or Wu, an actual Yin-Wu-Xu frame, Fire-season disruption, excessive Ren or Gui, and Wu or Ji can defeat or reclassify the route. It also explicitly gives ordinary-pattern precedence: Geng-Zi with another Zi hour may be Flying Heavenly Lu Horse, Chen month may be Resource, and Zi month may be Hurting Officer. The strict route requires a Geng day, three Geng stems and a complete Water frame
The passage names Geng-Shen, Geng-Zi and Geng-Chen days because their branches belong to Shen-Zi-Chen. It then requires the three branches to complete the Water frame and describes three Geng stems. A partial Water combination or a single Geng day is not the same rule.
Its “well rope” image models Shen-Zi-Chen as remotely clashing Yin-Wu-Xu. Ding Fire hidden in Wu is Geng’s Proper Officer. Yin, Wu, Xu and Ding are interpretive targets in this route; they are not added to the four pillars as observed data.

Visible Fire, seasonal disruption and ordinary patterns change the classification
Bing or Ding exposed in the stems and Si or Wu present in the branches fill or expose the intended target. An actual Yin-Wu-Xu frame and strong summer Fire also undermine the Water-driven premise. Ren and Gui can turn Shen-Zi-Chen toward Hurting Officer, while Wu and Ji damage the Water frame; the source therefore prefers autumn or winter.
The same text gives competing readings. Geng-Zi with another Zi at the hour may become Flying Heavenly Lu Horse; a Chen month can establish Resource, and a Zi month can establish Hurting Officer. Bing-Zi and Jia-Shen hours are also treated through their own hour structures. These ordinary routes must be resolved before the rare name.
