What Is Wood of Straightness Pattern (曲直格) in BaZi?
Understand 曲直格 through the Jia–Yi Day Master, Hai–Mao–Wei and Yin–Mao–Chen source routes, required support and OpenFate’s dominant-Wood boundary.
Overview
Wood of Straightness Pattern is the workbook standard English name for 曲直格, also translated as the Wood Curves and Straightens Pattern. San Ming Tong Hui records a Jia or Yi Day Master with a Hai–Mao–Wei Wood frame and specifically requires Hai as Resource for that route; it also preserves a verse about Jia–Yi born with Yin–Mao–Chen. These are related Wood-form traditions, not permission to call every Wood-heavy chart 曲直格. Metal, Earth, season, Resource, Output leakage, clashes and completeness change the reading. OpenFate currently expresses textbook-like dominant-Wood cases through its generic 從旺格 or 從旺未純 classification and does not publish 曲直格 as a separate named detector.

The received text preserves more than one Wood-frame route
The prose route starts with a Jia or Yi day and a complete Hai–Mao–Wei frame, then says Hai must be present because it carries Resource. If Hai is absent but Mao remains, the text changes its assessment and looks for Metal and Earth rather than treating the same route as fully formed.
A later verse mentions Jia–Yi with Yin–Mao–Chen and calls it another Wood image. The two passages should be cited separately. Combining all six branches into one requirement, or accepting any three Wood-associated branches, would invent a rule the source does not state.

Check what supports, drains or opposes the Wood form
Month command and season show whether Wood actually commands the environment. Water Resource can support the form, while Fire may provide controlled expression; Metal, Earth, incomplete frames, clashes and transformations can instead change the classification or create a different ordinary structure.
Schools differ over how much Output leakage remains compatible with a dedicated Wood form. The page therefore states the evidence and school boundary instead of presenting one fixed percentage or a universal list of favorable elements.

That generic result must not be relabeled 曲直格 unless a future named detector records the exact branch route, source version, blockers and negative examples. This Wiki page does not change existing chart output or stored reports.

Curving and straightening is elemental language, not character diagnosis
The name does not prove flexibility, integrity, kindness, growth, stubbornness, longevity or leadership. Historical praise such as 仁壽 is a traditional valuation, not a validated personality or health measure.
Do not derive occupation, education, wealth, relationships, medical status, safety or lifespan from the label. Use the pattern only as a transparent description of a chart-classification tradition.
