What Is Following the Child Pattern (從兒格) in BaZi?

Overview
Following the Child Pattern is the workbook standard English name for 從兒格. “Child” is a classical Five-Element metaphor for what the Day Master produces: Food God and Hurting Officer, not a literal son or daughter. Di Tian Sui describes the produced element becoming coherent and then producing the next element, so the reading follows an Output-led generative chain rather than merely counting many Output stars. OpenFate evaluates Output-side dominance, Day-Master roots, residual Self and Resource support, month command and implemented interactions. It can return formed 從兒格 or partial 從兒未純, with evidence and blockers; internal thresholds remain versioned product controls rather than ancient percentages.

The classical image is a production chain, not a child count
Di Tian Sui says that on leaving the Day Master one should meet the “child,” and that the child should form qi and meet its own child. Its commentary illustrates Wood producing Fire and Fire then producing Earth. The point is an ordered flow from the Day Master through Output and onward, not the presence of a literal child symbol.
A responsible review therefore checks whether Food God or Hurting Officer truly leads the chart, whether the next generated side can function, and whether strong Resource, Peer support or a surviving root interrupts full following. One Output stem by itself does not establish the pattern.

Following Output and ordinary Output patterns answer different questions
Food God Pattern and Hurting Officer Pattern usually begin with the effective month command and ask how that ordinary structure is supported, controlled or transformed. Following the Child asks whether the Day Master has lost an effective independent base and the whole chart must instead be read along the Output-led momentum.
Output Generates Wealth can appear inside the same sequence, but it names a functional relationship rather than proving a follower structure. Month command, roots, visible and hidden Self or Resource, combinations and competing Wealth or Authority drivers must remain separately visible.

The classical-pattern layer calculates the Output share and composition, effective support remaining with the Day Master, roots, month-command alignment and implemented branch or stem interactions. Strict evidence can produce 從兒格; meaningful momentum with unresolved support or purity remains 從兒未純.

The label does not establish fertility, pregnancy, number or sex of children, parenting quality, family closeness, artistic talent, intelligence, speech ability or entrepreneurship. Those conclusions are not contained in the structural rule.
Health, reproductive, relationship, education, career and financial decisions require real-world evidence and qualified advice. A chart label must not be used to judge a person or a child.
