What Is Three-Five Sequential Union (三五連合) in BaZi?
Learn the forward and inverted arrangements, the two transmitted stem strings, non-interference and vitality conditions, and why no universal detector is claimed.
Overview
Three-Five Sequential Union is the workbook’s English name for 三五連合. The source describes a top-to-bottom generating direction joined through yin and yang. Two like stems above with one stem below are called a forward sequential union; one stem above with two like stems below are called an inverted hanging union. It then prints the dense forward string 甲乙丙丁戊戊己庚庚辛壬壬癸甲 and inverse string 癸壬辛庚己己戊丁丁丙乙乙甲癸. Punctuation does not provide a safe universal grouping for every chart position. Forward and inverted unions are two positional routes
The forward route places two matching stems above and one stem below; the inverted route reverses that distribution. Both retain the source’s generating direction and yin-yang relation.
A reader must state which chart positions count as upper and lower and show every actual stem. A mere count of three stems cannot establish the route.
