What Is Blazing Flame Pattern (炎上格) in BaZi?
Learn the Bing–Ding and Yin–Wu–Xu route in San Ming Tong Hui, why Water and Earth rules vary by school and how OpenFate treats dominant Fire.
Overview
Blazing Flame Pattern is the standard English name for 炎上格. San Ming Tong Hui gives a Bing or Ding Day Master meeting a Yin–Wu–Xu Fire frame and says Yin, as Resource, is required. The same passage warns that self-intensified Fire without Hai Water assistance is not valued, and that Chen, Chou, Wu or Ji Earth can obscure Fire. This wording differs from modern dedicated-dominance summaries that require a nearly pure Fire environment and treat Water as opposition. OpenFate does not erase that source disagreement: its current engine classifies qualifying dominant-Fire charts under generic 從旺格 or 從旺未純, with versioned balance and momentum policies rather than a separate 炎上格 result.

Start with the Bing–Ding, Yin–Wu–Xu route actually recorded
The prose names a Bing or Ding day meeting Yin–Wu–Xu and requires Yin because it supplies Resource. Without Yin, the text downgrades the construction rather than treating any hot chart as complete.
It also names Chen, Chou, Wu and Ji Earth as obscuring Fire and warns about clash. Those clauses belong to this source route and must remain visible; a simplified “Fire percentage is high” rule loses the frame, support and damage logic.

Water treatment must be labeled by source and school
San Ming Tong Hui says Fire that is strong by itself but lacks Hai Water assistance is not valued. By contrast, many modern dedicated-dominance rules define purity by the absence of Water and treat Wood–Fire support as the central requirement.
Those positions cannot be silently blended. A page, rule or report should identify which source policy it follows, show actual Water and interactions, and avoid claiming that one universal ancient formula settles the dispute.

OpenFate exposes dominant-Fire evidence under the generic pattern family
The engine evaluates dominant Fire momentum, month support, Resource and Self composition, Output leakage and opposing Wealth or Authority. Reviewed fixtures protect textbook-like Fire cases from becoming structurally unreachable, but the public result remains 從旺格 or 從旺未純.
A future named detector would need an explicit source-version switch and counterexamples before it could emit 炎上格. The Wiki entry changes no calculation, stored chart or report.

Fire imagery does not diagnose temperament or illness
The pattern does not prove passion, charisma, anger, leadership, fame or impulsivity. The source’s references to eye or wind disorders are historical claims and are not a medical model.
Do not use 炎上格 to predict disease, accidents, violence, career, wealth, relationships or lifespan. Medical and safety questions require qualified, evidence-based assessment.
