What Is Water-Fire Harmony (水火既濟) in BaZi?
Learn the San Ming Tong Hui Shui Huo Ji Ji chart, reciprocal Officer relations, Bing–Xin and Wu–Gui transformations, and key limits.
Overview
Water-Fire Harmony is the standard English name for the BaZi pattern 水火既濟, not a reference to Hexagram 63 and not a generic claim that Water and Fire are balanced. The San Ming Tong Hui chart Xin Si, Xin Chou, Bing Zi, Wu Zi uses Bing seated on Direct Officer, reciprocal Officer relations between Bing and Gui, Bing–Xin combining toward Water, and Wu–Gui combining toward Fire. Each transformation requires its own evidence. The pattern does not prove military power, emotional balance, compatibility, health, rank, or success.

The source describes a specific reciprocal Officer and transformation chain
The cited chart is Xin Si, Xin Chou, Bing Zi, Wu Zi. Bing sits on Zi, where Gui acts as Direct Officer; the passage then treats Bing’s Officer and Gui’s Officer as mutually exchanged. It also reads Bing combining with Xin toward Water and Wu combining with Gui toward Fire.
This multi-step chain is why the section uses 水火既濟. Merely seeing Water and Fire, or calling their percentages equal, does not reproduce the chart. The term is also distinct from the I Ching hexagram of the same Chinese name.

Each Officer relation and stem transformation needs independent proof
The Day Master, Officer strength, month and hour support, stem proximity, season, transformation element, roots, and intervening clashes or combinations must be checked. A listed stem combination does not automatically transform.
Water and Fire may regulate, generate another route, conflict, or remain uneven depending on the whole chart. The source example cannot be reduced to “add Water when hot” or “add Fire when cold,” which belong to different climate-regulation questions.
