Overview
Combination-Transformation Forms Bureau is the workbook’s English name for 合化成局. The source begins by separating “combination” from “transformation”: Jia-Ji, Yi-Geng, Bing-Xin, Ding-Ren and Wu-Gui may combine, but their original elements are treated as transformed only after a real structure forms. It centers the Day Stem, checks the paired stem in year, month or hour, and requires the transformed qi to gather strength—especially at the hour and ideally through the Month Command, roots or a supporting phase. A combination that lacks this structure remains a combination without transformation and must still be read through the original stems and branches. The source gives five Chen-hour prototypes and ten partner-specific discussions, but their wealth, rank, family and lifespan claims are not modern rules. OpenFate’s existing combination evidence is not overridden by this article.

A visible stem pair establishes combination, not automatic transformation
The five standard pairings transform respectively toward Earth, Metal, Water, Wood and Fire only when the transformed phase forms a usable structure. The source makes the Day Stem the main reference even when the partner appears in another pillar.
If the pair combines but the transformed qi does not form, the text explicitly says not to transform it. The original stems, Ten Gods and branch context remain active.

Season, roots, hour concentration and absence of damage determine formation
The source values transformed qi gathered at the hour, supported by the month and carried by roots or a compatible structure. It gives source prototypes such as Jia-Ji with Wu-Chen and Ding-Ren with Jia-Chen.
Counteracting elements, harmful relations, weak transformed qi or adverse luck can prevent or disrupt the structure. The ten partner-specific verses are historical elaborations, not a shortcut around the formation test.
