Overview

Six Ren Shift is the standard English name for 六壬移換, a classical interpretive method in which certain clashes are said to “move” the stems onto the opposing branches for a second reading. The passage gives named day-hour examples such as Jia-Zi with Geng-Wu and Ren-Zi with Bing-Wu, plus larger four-pillar cases, and it explicitly excludes Ding-You with Gui-Mao. This is not a standard pillar-calculation rule: the birth chart remains exactly as calculated, while any shifted arrangement is only a labeled analytical hypothesis. OpenFate detects actual clashes but does not generate or score a Six Ren Shift chart.

Six Ren Shift is a historical second reading of named clashes

The source starts from charts containing Lu, Blade, Officer or Resource that do not settle on the stem itself. Under certain stem and branch clashes, it reads the opposing stems as if they had changed seats for the purpose of evaluating those relationships.

Jia-Zi day with Geng-Wu hour is read through Geng-Zi and Jia-Wu; Ren-Zi with Bing-Wu is read through Bing-Zi and Ren-Wu. These examples establish a narrow method, not a rule that every clash permutes every pillar.

  • Require a named or source-supported shift route.
  • Retain both the original evidence and the hypothetical reading.

The exception proves that clash alone is insufficient

The passage says Ding-You meeting Gui-Mao does not shift because both sides settle into their Noble relations. Its later cases also evaluate season, control and what each moved stem would receive.

A safe interpretation therefore records the exact clash, proposed reassignment, supporting Ten Gods, exception checks and the ordinary chart reading side by side.

  • Check the explicit Ding-You and Gui-Mao exception.
  • Do not infer movement from a branch clash alone.

OpenFate never rewrites the calculated birth chart

The engine can expose the original pillars, hidden stems, Ten Gods and clashes. Those deterministic facts remain the only natal chart data.

There is no Six Ren Shift detector or alternate-chart score. If the method is discussed, it must be labeled as a classical interpretive overlay and must not alter reports, saved charts or downstream calculations.

  • Original pillars remain authoritative.
  • A hypothetical overlay must be visibly separate and reversible.

A shifted reading cannot determine fortune or harm

The classical cases attach rank, fortune and misfortune to their reconstructed routes. Those retrospective examples are not validated predictions.

Do not use Six Ren Shift to guarantee success or to predict loss, illness, death, crime or disaster. Important choices need direct evidence and appropriate professional advice.

  • No success or status guarantee.
  • No health, death, crime or disaster prediction.
