What Is Summer Grass Meets Frost (夏草遭霜) in BaZi?
Learn the ten days after the summer solstice, Jia-Yi and Bing-Ding routes, Water-Metal support, clashes and Earth blockers, worked charts and safety limits.
Overview
Summer Grass Meets Frost is the workbook’s English name for 夏草遭霜. It is a narrow seasonal image for births within ten days after the summer solstice, when the text says the first Yin begins, heat starts to recede, Metal is hidden and Water begins. It is not a rule for all summer charts and does not describe literal frost. Jia-Yi routes require usable Ren-Gui/Hai-Zi Resource and Geng-Xin/Shen-You Officer without damaging clashes or suppression. Bing-Ding routes use Water Officer and supported Metal Wealth while warning against an obstructive Earth Output bureau. Jia-Xu, Geng-Wu, Yi-Wei, Bing-Zi and Yi-You, Gui-Wei, Bing-Zi, Gui-Si are worked examples with different evidence. OpenFate can calculate the solar-term boundary but does not declare this pattern.

The definition uses ten days after the solstice, not the entire summer
The source anchors the image to the first ten days after the summer solstice. The exact local instant and birth time therefore matter before any element relation is reviewed.
“Frost” is a metaphor for newly emerging cooling forces. It is not a weather report and cannot be inferred from a summer month label alone.
- Verify the solar-term instant and local birth time.
- Reject dates outside the cited ten-day window.
Day-Stem-specific Water and Metal routes require usable support
For Jia-Yi, the entry seeks Water Resource and Metal Officer with vitality and without damaging clash, punishment or suppression. For Bing-Ding, it seeks Water Officer and Metal Wealth that still has support.
The text also warns that an Earth Output bureau can damage the Bing-Ding route. Its two worked charts use different combinations of exposed and rooted evidence and must not be merged into one shortcut.
- Separate the Jia-Yi and Bing-Ding mappings.
- Show support, obstruction and each example’s full pillars.
OpenFate can verify timing and elements without declaring the image
The engine can calculate solar terms, local time, pillars, Ten Gods, roots, combinations, clashes and strength.
There is no Summer Grass Meets Frost detector. The narrow seasonal metaphor does not alter chart calculation, reports or saved results.
- Use deterministic solar-term and chart evidence.
- No seasonal-pattern flag or report mutation.
The post-solstice image does not guarantee rank or predict early death
The historical text promises high rank and includes severe claims about disability and death when conditions fail. Those claims are not modern evidence.
Do not predict status, examination success, disability, blindness, disease, accident, death or lifespan. Use medical and real-world evidence for safety decisions.
- No rank, examination or career guarantee.
- No disability, blindness, disease, death or lifespan prediction.
