What Is Zi-Wu Double Enclosure (子午雙包) in BaZi?
Learn the three classical Zi-Wu Double Enclosure layouts, how they differ from an ordinary Zi-Wu clash and what OpenFate does not infer.
Overview
Zi-Wu Double Enclosure is the standard English name for 子午雙包. The classical passage recognizes three structural families: two Zi with two Wu, two Wu enclosing one Zi, or two Zi enclosing one Wu. It frames Zi and Wu through historical palace imagery and water-fire interaction, but the repeated layout must be verified from the actual four pillars. A single Zi-Wu clash, two unrelated appearances or a favorable-sounding “water and fire balance” statement does not automatically establish the pattern. OpenFate calculates the branch positions and clashes but does not output Zi-Wu Double Enclosure as a verdict.

The source gives three repeated Zi-Wu layout families
The first family contains two Zi and two Wu. The second has two Wu around one Zi, and the third has two Zi around one Wu. The page must display the pillar order instead of reporting only branch counts.
“Enclosure” is therefore a structural description. It cannot be supplied by a hidden stem, a Luck Pillar or an inferred missing branch when the natal four pillars do not show the required arrangement.

Double Enclosure is narrower than an ordinary Zi-Wu clash
Zi and Wu form a standard branch clash, but the special-pattern passage asks for repetition or enclosure. One Zi opposite one Wu supplies clash evidence only.
The classical water-fire and palace images are explanatory metaphors. Month Command, strength, Ten Gods and other combinations still determine what the repeated branches do in the whole chart.

Historical palace imagery does not confer modern status
The source associates Zi and Wu with an imperial seat and gate and describes example charts as noble. That symbolism belongs to a historical social framework.
