What Is Turning Away from Lu and Chasing Horse (背祿逐馬) in BaZi?
Learn the separate Officer-loss and Wealth-loss conditions of Turning Away from Lu and Chasing Horse, its Jia and Ding routes, source variants and limits.
Overview
Turning Away from Lu and Chasing Horse is the workbook’s English name for 背祿逐馬. In this entry, Lu refers to Officer and Horse refers to Wealth. For Jia, Xin Officer is extinct when Jia is born in spring or summer, while Ji Wealth can be contested by Yi or a strong Hai-Mao-Wei Wood grouping. Both losses must be demonstrated; one weak Officer or one Rob Wealth marker is not enough. Ren-Zi, Ren-Zi, Ding-Wei, Yi-Si is presented as a Ding-Day example in which Ren Officer has passed its Lu phase and Geng Wealth is dead in Zi month, with Killing and Rob-Wealth luck as further blockers. The source itself notes that another classic explains the phrase differently, so the variants must remain separate. OpenFate does not declare the pattern or inevitable poverty.

Officer loss and Wealth loss are two separate required claims
The source defines turning from Lu through an Officer that has no seasonal function and chasing Horse through Wealth that is contested or exhausted.
Lu and Horse are contextual metaphors here. They must be mapped back to the Day Stem’s actual Officer and Wealth, not confused with every other Lu or Post Horse system.
- Derive Officer and Wealth independently.
- Keep this definition separate from other Lu and Horse conventions.
Season, robbery, Killing and luck determine whether both routes fail
For Jia, the text pairs an extinct Xin Officer with Ji Wealth contested by Yi or the Hai-Mao-Wei Wood force. Each relation needs its own seasonal and structural evidence.
The Ding-Day example combines a passed Officer phase, dead Metal Wealth in Zi month, Killing and Rob-Wealth luck. It does not create a general list for every Day Stem, and the cited alternative interpretation must remain labelled.
- Show the precise failure evidence for both Officer and Wealth.
- Separate natal failure, later luck and textual variants.
OpenFate preserves Officer and Wealth without collapsing them into a verdict
The engine can calculate Ten Gods, season, roots, hidden stems, combinations, strength and luck cycles.
There is no Turning Away from Lu and Chasing Horse detector. Weak relations remain visible and do not change reports, saved charts or financial data.
- Keep each relation and its evidence auditable.
- No composite poverty flag or report mutation.
Missing Officer and Wealth function does not prove lifelong poverty
The historical verse describes a person guarding a poor road in distress. It is rhetoric, not an economic measurement.
Do not predict lifetime poverty, unemployment, debt, homelessness, status, disaster or personal harm. Financial and career decisions require current evidence.
- No lifelong poverty, debt or unemployment prediction.
- No status, disaster, health or harm prediction.
