What Is Four Nurture One (四般生一) in BaZi?
Learn the four-generate-one and one-generate-four routes, the five-position Nayin example, Fetus dependency, supporting symbols and product limits.
Overview
Four Nurture One is the workbook’s English name for 四般生一. Its verse permits two opposite Nayin routes: four positions generate one position, or one position generates four. The cited chart uses Gui-Si, Gui-Hai, Xin-Hai and Ren-Chen with Jia-Yin as the Fetus pillar. Under the adopted Nayin table, Xin-Hai is Metal while the other four positions are Water, so one Metal generates four Water positions. The entry says additional fortune symbols modify the assessment, but does not provide a complete weighting, conflict or missing-position algorithm. Because the example relies on five positions and OpenFate does not synthesize this Fetus pillar for a Wiki verdict, the product does not currently detect Four Nurture One.

The two generating directions must be classified separately
A valid reading first assigns the Nayin element of all five adopted positions, then tests either four-to-one generation or one-to-four generation. Ordinary stem or branch generation is not a substitute.
The verse allows both directions but does not say that a partial three-to-one or one-to-three arrangement qualifies.

The cited example depends on an explicit Fetus pillar
The example is Gui-Si, Gui-Hai, Xin-Hai and Ren-Chen, plus Jia-Yin as Fetus. Xin-Hai supplies Nayin Metal; the remaining four supply Nayin Water.
Any school-specific Fetus calculation and Nayin table must be declared. The verse’s “add or subtract fortune symbols” wording is too terse to create a universal score.
