What Is Heavenly Stems String (天干連珠) in BaZi?
Learn how Heavenly Stems String follows an ordered generating chain, the Ren-Jia-Bing-Wu example, branch usefulness, order requirements and product limits.
Overview
Heavenly Stems String is the workbook’s English name for 天干連珠. The source section also calls it Heavenly Stems Following Output (天干順食): one visible stem generates the next in pillar order, illustrated by Ren producing Jia, Jia producing Bing and Bing producing Wu in the chart Ren-Chen, Jia-Chen, Bing-Xu, Wu-Xu. “String” therefore does not mean numerically consecutive Heavenly Stems. The order must not be reversed, and the source separately says the branches must be useful. A generating chain alone does not prove a favorable result. OpenFate calculates the stems and Ten-God relations but does not declare this pattern.

The string is a generating chain, not a run of adjacent stem numbers
The source explains “following output” with Jia seeing Bing, Bing seeing Wu and Wu seeing Geng. Its full example starts with Ren, then Jia, Bing and Wu, so each stem produces the next by Five-Element generation.
This is a positional rule across the visible pillars. Having the same four stems in a different order does not reproduce the cited route.

- Preserve year-to-month-to-day-to-hour order.
Branch support and counterevidence remain part of the judgment
In the worked chart, the two Chen branches precede two Xu branches and the text says the order is not inverted. Another quoted rule requires useful branches, so stems alone are not the whole pattern.
Month Command, roots, hidden stems, clashes, combinations and whether each Output relation can function must be shown. The source does not provide a complete list of every valid four-stem sequence.

The engine can derive each stem’s element and Ten-God relation, while retaining the original pillar order and branch evidence.
There is no Heavenly Stems String detector. A generating chain does not alter reports, scores, useful elements or saved charts.

The old formulas praise abundant provision and reputation. Those lines are literary evaluation, not proof of income, talent or public recognition.
